SAT Week 22

1. A caterpillar's transformation into a butterfly is a well-known _transfiguration__ in nature.

2. Alexander the Great rode in full __gallantry__ atop his coal colored horse covered in armor of pure gold to face 1,000 Burman soldiers who were ready to decimate him.

3. Not only did Jacob's mom notice that he had grown several inches over the summer, but she also noticed that he become a bit _portly_ and wondered what grandma had been feeding him in Nashville.

4. Twirling locks of hair around the face, batting eye lashes, and speaking in soft, whispery tones are all forms of _coquetry_ women use to show they are attracted to the male across from them.

5. “I _relish_ the moments we have spent together,” said Todd just before he hugged his girlfriend one last time before heading off to Iraq.

14 Points

A speech delivered by United States President Woodrow Wilson to a joint session of Congress on January 8, 1918. The address was intended to assure the country that the Great War was being fought for a moral cause and for postwar peace in Europe.

Dream Automobile

My dream car is the hippie van, or 1950-60's Volkswagen Type 2. I would want it tie-dye or something like the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo. The inside will only have two front seats and the back will have fur and soft stuff all over the place to "chill".

SAT Week 21

1.Finally, out of Nannie's talk and her own _conjectures_ over the matter, Janie made a sort of comfort for herself in her mind.

2.Janie stood at Nannie's gatepost looking at first up the road and then down it waiting for life to _commence_.

3.When Pheoby told Janie the townspeople believed that Tea Cake had taken all her money and left her for a younger girl, Janie said they were wrong and that Tea Cake had given her every _consolation_ in the world.

4.It was a _languid_ sort of day; the townspeople gathered on Phoeby's porch and watched the dust swirl down the street in silence.

5.Nannie looked at Janie: “Whut's de matter, sugar? You ain't none too _spry_ dis mornin'. What done sucked de life outta you? I know you ain't tired”

Muckraker

A muckraker is, primarily, a reporter or writer who investigates and publishes truthful reports involving a host of social issues, broadly including crime and corruption and often involving elected officials, political leaders and influential members of business and industry. Upton Sinclair is considered to be one because he reported on the unsanitary procedures that were going on in factories. I think the most disturbing of the passage was the fact that farmers liked the cows to have tuberculosis because it made them fatter.

SAT Words Week 20

1.Five or six more men left the porch and surrounded the   fractious   beast, goosing him in the sides and making him show his temper; the beast snorted wildly and kicked at every leg in refusal to cooperate.

2.In not only establishing Eatonville as the first black incorporated town in America, Mr. Starks claimed to make it the   metropolis   of the state; his ambition—at first—motivated everyone.

3.After the marriage began, Janie stood on the porch   sullen  as if she were attending a funeral everyday.

4.She knew that the world was a stallion rolling in the fields of blue   ether  ; she just hadn't learned quite yet how to reign it in.

5.Ever since the storm, Tea Cake had been acting ornery; even the look in his eyes told Janie that Tea Cake wasn't always in his own body.

American Dream

I don't think it has changed much, except for how it is achieved. In the 20's a lot of people got rich by illegal things, which is still the same today, but now it seems like there is more ways to become "rich" and successful.

Gatsby

How did Mr. Wilson find out so fast that Gatsby was the driver of the car?

That is my question and what I would like to discuss during the seminar.

New Year's Resolution

Did not make a resolution, I just want to improve on my grades in this class and improve and sharpen my drumming skills.
