I think the author was inspired by the loss of someone very dear to him. Not just a friend, but something deeper, almost like a soulmate. Through all the excitement and events, he is still reminded of a single person, and he will never lose the memories of that person.

Were a series of laws passed in western states of the United States after the American Civil War to regulate grain elevator and railroad freight rates and rebates and to address long and short-haul discrimination and other railroad abuses against farmers.

Tariff

Tax on imported goods. Used by US to encourage people to buy goods made in the US.

SS provides benefits to people who are retired, disabled, or unemployed.
Medicare provides health care to people 65 and over.
Medicaid provides health  for families and individuals with low income.

Favorite Board Game

My favorite board game was Monopoly because I loved money when I was a kid and it was awesome to rack up and buy a bunch of stuff.

Crucible

The girls were caught in the woods and are now starting to blame random people for being witches, taking the spotlight off of themselves.
